Page Access

As part of the site (http://climate.usurf.usu.edu/conversions.php), a page has been included to perform various conversions that might be useful while analyzing data. This page can be accessed via the "Conversions" link on the right sidebar. It is often useful to have a conversions page open separately from the data being analyzed. To open the conversions page separately, select a desired web browser and do one of the following:

  • For Internet Explorer:
    • Right Click on the "Conversions" link and choose "Open in New Window"
  • For Firefox (one of the following):
    • Middle Click on the "Conversions" link to open it in a new tab
    • Right Click on the "Conversions" link and choose "Open in New Window" or "Open in New Tab"
  • For Opera:
    • Right Click on the "Conversions" link and choose "Open in New Page"

Operating Conversions

Conversions can be opened and closed through a conversions menu located on the left side of the screen. This menu can be expanded or collapsed by clicking on the plus and minus sign inside a small box next to each listed menu item.

Viewing Conversions. Conversions can be viewed by clicking on the conversions menu list located on the left side of the screen. Each listed item is linked to a conversion box, which will appear on the right side of the screen when a link is selected.

Closing Conversions. Conversion boxes, located on the right side of the page, can be closed by clicking on the close button on the top right corner of each box.

Rearranging Conversion Boxes. Conversion boxes can be rearranged by placing the cursor anywhere inside the box, pressing and holding the left mouse button, and dragging it above or below another conversion box.

Equations Option. At the bottom of each conversion box is a link that will show or hide information for an equation. Simply click on the link that will expand or collapse information for a particular equation.

GMT Time Conversion. Daylight Saving Time is only applicable for time zones within the United State.

A Note about Cookies

The Utah Climate Center GIS Climate Search site uses cookies to store user session information. A cookie is a small text file saved on your hard drive that is used to remember information during the session and the next time you visit the site. The cookie does not contain any information that can be used to personally identify the user. These cookies simply contain a session number that points to a table in a database that stores all queries being made. If the cookie is deleted (or expires), the user can no longer retrieve information from the session (e.g., the list of data requests made). The cookie is used to remember session information such as map positions, selected stations, and time periods. Cookies are also an important component for operating conversions, making it possible for a user to return to the same conversion previously viewed at a later time. When a user returns to view a conversion, the cookie will remember the most recent conversions opened and the order in which they were previously arranged. For these reasons, it is recommended that cookies are enabled when using this site. Cookies from this site are set to automatically expire after a week.
